Ok two separate things. First I have tytorial from sty-x.com on creating a glass sphere and I am stuck. After creating and filling the first image the tutorial says I new to add a color overlay. It tells me to go to layer>layer style> coloroverlay but layer style is greyed out. So I can't go any further. Help!! Second I have an image that has a sphere on it or background. I want to remove the background so that all I have left is the sphere. Please keep this very simple because I have no knowledge of Adobe Photoshop and for some reason nothing makes sense to me. Thanks. If possible please email me.

Styl skinner, could you please do a tutorial covering gradients,PLZ! I find that I cant make anything look REALLY good without them. Sure I can add highlights and such but its just not the same. Like how to make them for starters would be nice (such a noob), how to confine them to just a small area of the graphic you're working on, just some details would be great. THANK YOU

the details on images that you see are mostly not done with gradients, but I will write a tutorail about them.

(most 'light effects' on a skin for example are done with feathering things)

Hey Styl, ok and could you PLZ explain that too, 'cause I never even knew that, I thought it was all gradients (such a NOOB ) good lord do I have alot to learn

Thanks for helping us, I for one really appreciate it!!

Well now this beats all.I posted a question that I need help in and this section ends up with other NOOB's asking for more tutorials > and my 2 questions are still not answered. >. So what's the use of posting here anyway? Yes I'm pissed because I thought I could get help here but only got lost in the bull. > .

Bushman, relax, this are people who are doing this in their spare time, to help other people. Now, I sended you a .psd file, did that clear things out?

About the other question I am not sure, you could try to draw a cricle around it and cut it out...

Your psd file looks great but it never (and you) answered my questions. Even in our emails Styl my questions were never answered. I still don't know why the things are happening. So I quit working on it.

oh, yeah, thats smart

Sometimes we need to look at our selfs to see the problems so that the answers are more clear. This post is dead. I am sorry that nothing happened here.

If you want to cut an image from abackground, use the majic wand tool, click on either the object to be selected or on the background, u may need to hold shift key and keep clicking until all the white selection marks dissap. once u have your object selected invert the selection under selection copy and paste into an open image or create a new file and paste. hope this helps.

what?
on Sep 04, 2003
Dent, mostlikely that will not work for most objects, when you take the 'magic wand tool' you can insert how many pixels it allowes, the more you rice this the bigger the chance gets that you select the outside too.

is your sphere on it's own layer or the background? (Styl's instructions don't say to create a new layer before drawing but you need to )

you can't apply layer styles to the initial background layer.

to make a new layer press Ctrl+Shift+N. Then create your shape. You should then be able to apply your layer style.

Also when you create the new document, under content, select transparent to give you a transparent file to start with.

Hope this helps!
